The Delightful Surprise of a Handsome Man

The Delightful Surprise of a Handsome Man

Here’s to my first Loveletter…

Welcome to the zesty, vivacious, thoughtful world of a woman who has dared to love. I’m talking about me, Jane Myers Drew—psychotherapist, amusement park goer, margarita lover.

In my 70s, I met a magnetic, compassionate, very—and I mean VERY—handsome, white-haired man who told me on our first date that he had Stage Four lung cancer. It might have been a potential deal breaker for some, but something inside me said he could be the one I’ve been looking for, and I jumped into love with both feet.

Patrick became the love of my life, and when he left this mortal plane, alongside my grief, treasured memories of romance, laughter, and adventure welled up inside me. My time with Patrick was the best of my entire life.

Something inside me said he could be the one I’ve been looking for, and I jumped into love with both feet.

I would never have thought to pour it all into a book without fate stepping in. In fact, when my good friend Michele told me over lunch that I should write a book and call it Dare to Love, I said, NO WAY!

I was not up to such a behemoth task.

But then a memoir class came along and tricked me into doing just that—writing a memoir.

Now here we are… with stories of love and adventure swirling around us.

★★★★★

An Inspiring Invitation to Live Fully

“This is such a beautifully written book—intimate, honest, clever, and wonderfully humorous… Her willingness to share the beautiful, messy, tender, and sometimes funny realities of her experience felt both brave and deeply human.”

Dare to Love

Falling for a Man with Stage Four Cancer

A true love story of courage, humor, and hope—and a reminder that it’s never too late to take a chance on happiness.

Along with the stories in my book, we all have zesty, zesty life at the ready within us. So I thought I might share some of the zest in my world to spark the zest in yours. It’s a world of fun with dating at any age, seductive champagne kisses, and what I like to call “Friskie Riskies”—taking small social risks that can bring more enjoyment and connection into life. I’m also all about “Juicy-Juicy Gratitude,” healing heartaches, and letting go of “Life Stoppers”—self-limiting beliefs that hold us back—so we can live a life we love.

So many things to share! More Loveletters to come!
